Understanding What to Expect from your Tummy Tuck Procedure

    Last updated 2 years ago

When diets, exercise, creams, and non-invasive cosmetic procedures have failed to produce the smooth, taut abdomen that you desire, a tummy tuck may be worth considering. For many people, a tummy tuck is the only way to achieve a certain appearance. This is particularly true if you have had children or have lost a substantial amount of weight quickly. If you have made the decision to have a tummy tuck, it is important that you understand what to expect of your surgery.

    • Preparing for a Tummy Tuck

During your tummy tuck consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will explain what you should do to prepare for your surgery. Some of these recommendations may include:

    • Quit smoking to reduce the risk of post-operative complications
    • Adhering to a healthy diet and fitness routine to strengthen the body
    • Assessing any prescription medications you are taking and possibly stopping them for a period of time with the permission of your physician

Following these recommendations in the weeks prior to your surgery date will help your tummy tuck procedure and recovery go as smoothly as possible. On the day of your surgery, you should prepare ice packs, loose and comfortable clothing, and anything else your surgeon has recommended.

    • Undergoing a Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is a major surgery that can take anywhere from one to five hours, depending on your situation. You will be under general anesthesia for the majority of this time. Your surgeon will complete the procedure, place drainage tubes, and close the incision. It is vital that you follow all post-op instructions for recovery and keep any follow-up appointments with your surgeon.

3 Reasons Why You Should Consider Post-Bariatric Surgery

    Last updated 2 years ago

Any dramatic weight loss takes hard work, and while bariatric surgery can give many people the push they need, it is not a quick fix. Life after weight loss surgery requires a lot of discipline, and can be quite challenging. Once the weight comes off, certain areas of the body may still be difficult to firm and tone through exercise, partially due to an excess of skin. Post-bariatric surgery is a great option for many patients who have reached a healthy weight but are still unhappy with their new body’s appearance.

    • Look Your Best

Post-bariatric surgery is often referred to as a “body lift.” The removal of excess skin and fat deposits can create a healthier, more youthful body contour to reflect the hard work involved in dramatic weight loss. The procedure should lead to increased attractiveness and confidence.

    • Feel Your Best

Carrying around excess skin and fat is a physical burden, as well as an emotional one. A body lift is a great way to complete the transformation into a healthy new you. It may also enable you to explore wardrobe options which show more skin, so you can have fun with your wardrobe and feel proud of the way you look.

    • Maintain a Healthy Exercise Routine

A healthy lifestyle involves regular exercise, which can be difficult if the body is carrying around extra skin. Not only does this make exercise physically uncomfortable, but it may also make people self-conscious in public. Post-bariatric surgery gives the body a more toned, firm look to help people look and feel better when moving around.

If you have recently lost a lot of weight through bariatric surgery, cosmetic surgery may be a great option to help you look and feel your best. If you are interested in post-bariatric surgery, or would like to learn about other cosmetic procedures, contact Premier Plastic Surgery Group to learn more. Call us today at (832) 431-5296!

    How Does Liposuction Work?

    Last updated 2 years ago

Liposuction is one of the most common forms of plastic surgery. It is a great option for patients who are at a healthy weight, but have stubborn fat deposits they cannot lose with exercise and diet alone.

    • The Basics

All forms of liposuction use some form of vacuum to remove fat from the body. Common target areas are the stomach, “love handles,” upper arms, thighs, buttocks, and under the chin. Generally, it is safer to remove fat that is not directly under the skin, but from the deeper layers. Thin tubes, inserted through small incisions in the skin, break up and remove fat cells through suction.

    • Types of Liposuction

Most liposuction today is performed using the tumescent technique. This involves injecting a fluid into the flesh which contains an anesthetic to reduce blood loss, and a salt solution which makes fat easier to remove. The super-wet technique is similar, but uses less fluid, takes less time, and usually requires general, rather than local, anesthesia. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses ultrasound energy to liquefy fat cells before removal.

    • Results

Swelling is common, so results may not look dramatic at first. The results of liposuction are immediate and permanent, but can be reversed through weight gain. If you are considering liposuction, it is important that you are committed to maintaining your weight after the procedure.

    • Combination Procedures

Liposuction does not promote weight loss, and the procedure alone will not tighten skin. However, it can be combined with other procedures, such as a body lift or tummy tuck, in cases where there is excess skin or sagging in addition to a fat deposit. None of these procedures are meant as a quick fix for weight loss.
